Default Living La Carb-a Loca?

Gang:

Have you read the new low-carb post at Auntie's Food Blog? It's about low-carb TV dinners and frozen meals; she's putting up a list of meals that are less than 20 carbs per serving. I guess it's in two parts, the first one is 15 meals, she'll put up the next one next week.

Here's the link: http://auntiesfoodlife.blogspot.com/...w-carb-tv.html

I think it's a cool idea.

Default Living La Carb-a Loca or is it Low-ca?

I think listing the low-carb options is a cool idea too.

Especially since low-carb seems to be one area the manufacturers have wimped out on in the last year. Michelina's Avantage was an expressly low-carb line that is now being converted to Avantage "Wholesome Menu" (yet) and now stresses the vegetables. Swanson's renamed their Carb-Meter line "Smart Bowls". I have to wonder what impact the name changes had on their sales, if any.

Are people still that spooked by low-carb eating?

Hey, Barb!

When you say "spooked," do you mean are people frightened OF low-carb eating? As in, they think it's too hard or too (literally) tasteless?

If that's the question, I'd say yes, a LOT of people are scared to utilize a low-carb diet for a variety of reasons. There are a lot of doomsayers out there, saying Atkins, et al, is scary bad for you; there are folks who exercise who say that they have trouble fueling their workouts without carbs; and then there are all the people (you run into them in the supermarkets CONSTANTLY, I have no idea why) who say that they lost 20 or 40 or 60 pounds on Atkins "but gained it all right back."

And I know that in the business, a lot of the manufacturers are re-designing their lines, saying that the "low-carb craze is over," although you certainly can't tell by the number of low-carb forums and websites out there!!

I was wondering if the manufacturers are re-designing because they think people are scared of low-carb for all the reasons you mentioned.

If it's just a matter of fashion - they think it's a "craze" that's now over - that would explain it too. You know the old saying about the stock market running on "greed and fear". I was wondering if it was the greed factor or the fear factor.

Given the popularity of low-carb eating, as you pointed out yourself, it still surprises me that they've made these moves. They didn't seem to give it very long - I'd barely discovered the Swanson's Carb-Meter line when they renamed it.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
